Mimi deOlloqui-Turner
I try to see beyond the surface of things and discover the deeper relationship that exists between shape, line and color. The process often leads me to discover how a person or thing uniquely occupies their space. A personality, often not apparent at first glace, comes forth.
I love bringing to my canvases, the places and people that I know. The element of the personal is important when I paint. Photographing my subjects at the beginning is a way of documenting those images that contribute to the realism I want to depict. Outlining the general shapes, I then begin to create added dimensions, contrasting color, trying to keep the paintings fresh; a place for the imagination to explore.
